Album of the Week

Hi darlings,

This week's album of the week goes to Loveland by Suki Waterhouse! What a beautifully written album that truly depicts the ups and downs of falling in love with someone. The album contains 14 tracks, and all 14 of them are GORGEOUS songs. The album was released on July 10th, and now, over a month later, multiple songs from it remain on my "On Repeat" playlist.  Here are my top 5 songs that I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to listen to:

1. Back in Love

The lead single off the album, released on March 27th and a very smart choice from Suki.  Lyrics? Relatable. Melody? Catchy. Music Video? Fun. Once this song was released, I knew what to expect from the album, and it did not disappoint.

2. When I Get Drunk (I Want You Boy)

The 3rd single from the album, released on June 12th. A completely different vibe, but it remains in the "Love" theme of the album. The perfect blend of funky and dreamy, with yearning lyrics to tie it all together. Have you ever messaged "that" person after a night of drinking? This song is what goes through all our heads in that moment.

3. Jukebox

A fun, nostalgic track that paints the picture of a meaningless fling at a bar. With notes of the 1950s and 70s in the track and playful lyrics, the song transports you to a dive bar where you live in the moment and live spontaneously. A great song to listen to when you want to jump on your bed and sing into a hairbrush, in my opinion!

4. Teardrops

A gloomy track with a fast-paced tempo about the pains that come with an unstable relationship. The track speaks of the thrill of romance but the sadness that comes with emotional distance. Suki sings of feeling helpless to save her partner from themselves. As a commenter said on her YouTube lyric video: This song sounds like pink glitter and crystal tears. And I couldn't agree more.

5. Any Man

And last but not least, my favourite song from the album.  A funky, upbeat track where Suki sings about being magnetic and how easy it is for her to have someone "fall" for her. She sings of the confusion and burden this has brought to her, but has aspects of confidence in the song as well. I can honestly say that I listen to this song at least 3 times a day, and I am not ashamed of that!

If you have never heard of Suki Waterhouse but enjoy artists that have a dreamy, melancholy, romantic-esque vibe to them, such as Lana Del Rey or Mazzy Star, you will most likely enjoy this album. If you have heard of Suki but haven't listened to her new album, take this as your sign to do so!

Stay weird,

Twyla✨
